You Took Away My Flag: a Movie About Kosovo draws its story and many of its characters from You Took Away My Flag: a Musical About Kosovo, produced in Chicago at Strawdog Theatre in 2009, and again at Theatre Building Chicago in 2010.
The musical was sung-through, with 50 songs. The movie is not a musical. It takes the subject matter of the musical and focuses on two forbidden relationships, exploring how the protagonists struggle to overcome oppression, some of it military and political, some of it social.
